West Nile Virus
“The confirmed reports of a few birds infected with West Nile virus in North Carolina this year doesn't seem like much of a problem, but we can reasonably assume that it means the virus is established in the state. Even if this is not the case, it is certain that West Nile virus will become established in North Carolina in another year or two. Awareness and appropriate precautions will go a long waytowards minimizing the impact of this disease.”

The above quote is from an excellent North Carolina website on the subject of the West Nile Virus and its threat to our health in the State. In this very active mosquito season, you may want to visit this site for information to protect you and your family. And, remember mosquitoes love to be near the water, just as many of us do. The website also includes a form for citizens to report on any birds found dead in the State from unknown causes.Website is at: http://www.deh.enr.state.nc.us/phpm/wnv/index.html
